Fellowship Director And Curriculum Designer
CurrentI serve as the managing director of a postgraduate Fellowship -- the only one of its kind in the United States -- that brings recent college graduates to Rome for a year to learn Latin and Italian and to train as teachers for tour groups in Italy (~3 million in annual revenue). Responsibilities include: - Creating and implementing an innovative 15-week curriculum including lectures, language classes, site visits in and around Rome, and extended trips to Campania and Tuscany (~500 hours of instruction)- Leading multiple tours per week to archaeological sites, museums, and places of interest in Rome, the Bay of Naples, and Florence- Designing creative lesson plans and pedagogical materials, including original Latin compositions and exercises in active Latin- Directing logistical operations and interacting with local vendors- Overseeing the hiring and onboarding process of 5-7 Fellows per year (out of a total of 20-25 annual interviewees)Outside of my duties in Rome, I have played a leading role in managing and executing various curriculum design projects, including an online digital Latin course (complete with a Latin graded reader and animated grammar videos), monolingual editions of Greek and Latin texts, and the Duolingo Latin course. Major contributions include:- Writing and developing an Orberg-style Latin graded reader, complete with marginal glosses and illustrations (2 volumes, 80,000+ words)- Preparing scripts for 100 animated videos designed to teach the entirety of Latin grammar- Writing and editing monolingual editions of Greek and Latin texts, complete with paraphrases and copious notes in the target language (Homer's Iliad, Catullus' Carmina, Caesar's Gallic Wars, and Vergil's Aeneid)- Formatting and designing books for publication using inDesign- Structuring and developing the Duolingo Latin course
