After the successful completion of the StarOne D1 satellite in orbit, I was assigned to the SSL’s flagship ultra-HTS Jupiter 3 Q & Ka-band Return payload. The satellite is capable of over 550 GBPS with over 300 spot beam coverage areas in North and South America and is a major technical & programatic challenge to design. Excellent internal and external communication, coordination, and teamwork is essential to the project's success. I was placed in a position acting as lead engineer and managing a small team, giving me an introduction to many of the aspects of engineering management. I have successfully completed the preliminary design review and stakeholder buyoff in March 2018, and am now proceeding to the next major design phase for the satellite.I received praise from PMO, VP, principle engineers and senior EPMs after the conclusion of the preliminary design review for excellent presentation and communication ability with our stakeholders.Roles/Responsibilities:- Responsible engineer for next generation Jupiter-class UHTS satellite with 36 gateways and 301 spot beams operating at Ka/Q/V-band frequency- Provide technical leadership to system team- Manage resources on system team- Assess scope, time, and manpower impacts of major engineering changes- Provide mentorship and training to all team members and provide drop in technical support- Manage system schedule and deliverable timeliness and accuracy- Provide program management team with risk assessment and mitigation recommendations- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors- Deliver critical design change status, impacts, and recommendations to customers during front end design- Very strong and experienced oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills- Support all major program design milestones (FEP, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR)NOTE: All technical aspects of previous role were maintained but have been removed for brevity.

Apr 2017 - Oct 2018

Senior Rf Communication Systems Engineer

Palo Alto, Ca, Us

After my successful completion of the EchoStar-18 system’s reliability, I moved on to join the Communication Systems group at Space Systems\Loral. After two months of assisting EchoStar-18, I was assigned to the StarOne D1 HTS Ka-band forward payload RE. After approximately 6 months, I was assigned the ‘sister’ return payload, and I maintained both payloads through all design phases, all integration phases, and all test phases, including satellite sell off at the in-orbit-test facility.Roles & Responsibilities:- Responsible engineer for two StarOne Ka-band (20-30 GHz) spot-beam communication systems (dual link)- Analysis of satellite communication system: RF link analysis, RF performance budgets (contractual conformance), block diagram/schematics, part and vendor selection- Performed front end design, technical definition of RF hardware for LNAs, frequency downconverters, TWTAs, filters/multiplexers, MLO/MROs, switches), and adapted new designs for improved reliability - Developed technical solutions for non compliances with requirements and underperformance- Provided mentorship to junior engineers- Performed front-end trade studies (balance schedule, cost, performance, mass, and power)- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams involving mechanical, thermal, configuration, antenna, and power- Supervised testing plan, setup, & configuration, reviewed & troubleshot test results at system level- Present design summaries, issues & challenges, and results to stakeholders at program milestones- Translation of contractual documents into system requirements and technical performanceRegular oral and visual presentations and authorship with multinational customer- Authored satellite design data packages and satellite operating procedure documents- Communicated design details with oral presentations at key design milestones to multinational stakeholders- Completed final sell-off of satellite performance in-orbit while at IOT (in orbit test) facility

Electrical/System Reliability Engineer

Palo Alto, Ca, Us

My first engineering job after college, I joined Space Systems\Loral’s design reliability department. Within a few months, I completed my master’s degree and had my position elevated to the department lead/POC for all RF device analysis. I implemented several process improvements and authored a white paper for a design recommendation that is still in use today and the design change is utilized on all SSL RF active componentsAfter about a year in this role, I was unsatisfied with the scope of my role and asked to be accelerated into a system reliability RE role. This is a role that was traditionally only handled by the most senior engineers due to the scope and detail required. I was very successful in completing the EchoStar-18 system reliability model, to the satisfaction of both PMO and stakeholders.Roles & Responsibilities:- R&D Lead for all RF/communication equipment- System reliability engineer for an EchoStar 58-transponder Ku-band HTS communications spacecraft- Identified several high-risk designs with newly space qualified technology resulting in improvements- Department lead for all RF active hardware and responsible for all reliability analysesPerformed Circuit Stress Analysis, Failure Rate Analysis, Failure Modes, Criticality, and Effects Analysis- Determined root cause/fault tree analysis for on orbit failures to assess additional failure risks to operating satellite- Assisted destructive testing of damaged non-flight hardware for failure analysis and component validation- Present reliability analysis and results to stakeholders at key design reviews- Manage and review to ensure that subcontractor documentation follows all requirements and sufficiency
