Enforcement Officer with the Coast Guard managing a team of Maritime Enforcement Specialists serving in a law enforcement capacity. Additionally, activated to support a white-paper project while supervising ADASSIGN personnel and evaluating unit capabilities for sustainability of temporarily assigned personnel at USCG Sector Lake Michigan.

Stationed at U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Strike Team. Served as the lead reserve Health Services Technician and managed the sick bay on reserve weekends and when the active duty Health Service Technicians were gone. Provided care for acute illness/injury and emergencies for the reserve staff on the base. Performed site visits to outlying units to review and organize medical records, and to perform mandatory immunizations for members at those units. Reviewed medical records and assisted in screenings for alcohol incidents, physicals, medical boards, and retirements. Activated to help cover contingency support operations for Port Security Unit pre-deployments. Activated in support of COVID-19 at Coast Guard TRACEN Cape May. Served as the Contact Tracing Administrator and assisted with testing and vaccine roll-out. Advanced in rank to First Class Petty Officer and then to Chief Petty Officer before commissioning as a Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Determine if claimed conditions warrant service connection. Assign ratings to veterans disability claims per the Rating Schedule and Code of Federal Regulations. Determine completeness of claims and evaluate for evidence needed for rating decisions and adjudication.

Processed claims, reviewed medical records for claimed disabilities, ordered exams, reviewed paperwork for accuracy and completeness, applied legal guidance to claims decisions, provided veterans with a duty to assist in requesting records from private and federal entities, performed additional evidence development to support claims, and completed systems checks to ensure accuracy.

University of Wisconsin-Madison’s version of a Resident Assistant. For the first two years, I was the sole House Fellow at Susan B. Davis Residence Hall and was responsible for thirty residents, most of who were juniors and seniors or third-year and fourth-year students, for both safety and security. I was also responsible for planning morale and community-building events with a limited budget, or for collaborating with other House Fellows with a much larger budget to help to establish half-campus or campus-wide events that were not planned by UW-Housing. For the third year, I was one of eight House Fellows in Dejope Residence Hall and was responsible for fifty-six residents, most of who were considered freshmen or first-year students. I was assigned a larger budget with a bigger focus on collaborating with co-House Fellows, or the other House Fellow assigned to the same floor with an equal number of residents.

Stationed at the U.S. Coast Guard Yard Medical Clinic in Baltimore, MD. Managed the outpatient department, front desk, and rotated to different departments throughout the clinic. Obtained patient’s vital signs and performed full patient work ups and evaluations to pass down to the medical officers for co-signature. Became qualified in military physical examinations, clinic laboratory, and x-ray departments, and assisted with minor surgical procedures and suturing. Served as the Training Petty Officer for the clinic and ran emergency drills as well as assigned training to different clinic members to present for continuing education. Responded to medical emergencies on base as a collateral duty and stabilized patients for transport. Additionally, performed food service sanitation inspections for the galley and the two clubs on base, and performed sanitation and cleanliness inspections for the base barber shop. Advanced in rank to Second Class Petty Officer.

Worked for the Master-at-Arms staff managing multiple early-arrival and dis-enrolled active duty and reserve Coast Guard members and delegating work tasks to manage the barracks at Training Center Petaluma. Assisted with overall maintenance and cleanliness of the buildings and conducted room inspections for the “A” school students to ensure they were maintaining the required military standards expected of them for both cleanliness and attention to detail. Also assisted with setting up berthing and room reservations for incoming training schools. Stood a collateral duty police dispatch watch for the CGPD on base. At the end of this period from August 2009-December 2009, attended Health Services Technician “A” school and was advanced in rank to Third Class Petty Officer.

Worked as a Sales Associate in the Men’s Department. Responsible for ensuring upkeep and organization of the department, including folding clothes, shifting displays, updating prices, and reorganizing the floor when there was new product to be moved in. Also served as a cashier at customer checkout, where in addition to ringing out customers, I helped to sell customers on the store credit card by offering incentives and discounts exclusive to the credit card, and assuring customers of the convenience that they could pay it off any time at the register.
