Network Engineer
CurrentMy role at Openreach is to install, repair and maintain broadband, fibre-optic and landline telephone networks.I have good practical skills, and can track down and solve problems using electrical theory and specialist equipment. I need to be well organised, able to follow technical diagrams and happy to work as part of a team or on my own in any weather or situation.As a Network Engineer i install, test and repair communications and datacommunications systems, such as:•Fixed-line and mobile telephony networks.•Copper wire and fibre-optic cabling.•VoIP communication systems.•Wireless radio networks providing internet access via PCs, smartphones and tablets.My work can vary in scale from setting up a communications network in a large organisation, to the installation of a home system. This role involves:•Laying, connecting and testing underground and underfloor cabling.•Testing and repairing faults in public and private exchanges.•Designing, building and testing telecommunications components and equipment.•Climbing telegraph poles to carry out routine maintenance or installs.
