After eight successful years of teaching and managing a large team it has given me the skills and more importantly the experience to develop in my role as Curriculum Manager. I feel I am able to share what I have learnt and pass on my skills and knowledge. In my current role as CM, I proactively harness the talents and capabilities of colleagues by providing support and motivating them to perform well. I use a coaching/mentoring approach so they can improve and develop their teaching skills. I have been able to adapt my skills to assist their individual needs by performing the role with integrity, warmth and sensitivity.Helping and supporting colleagues is an important factor within teaching and learning. My experience has now been expanded in the role of a CM. I aid, mentor and develop new members of staff to become good teachers. I explain how lesson plans and schemes of work (it’s like the bible for teaching), are important within Teaching and Learning always emphasising how important these fundamental tools are. I encourage my team to experiment, find teaching methods and techniques that work and share problems in order to find solutions. I complete assessment reviews with my colleagues so I can identify their strengths and weakness.By working closely with colleagues and advising them, I have gained respect and trust, which is evidenced through informal chats and formal evaluations. Taking on this role has enabled me to pass on new teaching methods and new resources to my colleagues ensuring they improve their teaching and learning within the world of Further Education (FE), which is always changing. Believing that I am not the finished article, I am always looking to improve myself in the future with continuous professional development (CPD) and keep up to date with new teaching and learning resources such as: Smart Boards and the VLE Moodle. I can then use these methods to promote E-learning and improve the experience for learners.

Fab & Weld Lecturer /Team Leader

I always try to provide high levels of teaching to all groups from Entry Level to Level 3. I believe that the more interactive learning is and the more you challenge learners the more enjoyable the journey is.My role as a teacher was to ensure that learners where taught the correct way to achieve a high standards within Fab & Weld. I always ensured learners got regular feedback so they were constantly aware of what they have achieved and what work needs to be completed in order to meet their smart targets. I encourage active learning and have found through experience that learners learn better from each other (fact). I use medal and mission feedback (what went well is the medal, what can be improved is the mission). Using these strategies it will have a big impact in the way the lessons are taught. I am very competent in all processes of welding from flat to overhead positions. With this experience I have gained from industry it has given me the skills and knowledge to pass onto others. When teaching welding, it's not just about someone being able to weld, but making sure all learners understand the fundamentals and how to set the correct parameters on a welding machine, they also need to understand the importance of a materials structure and have the ability to analyse & evaluate a weld. They must also understand the specification in order to achieve a quality product. My Team Leader role gave me a greater insight of management, where I managed a small team to enable them to get the best from the curriculum which they worked in.
