I joined the MERail research group at the University of Sheffield as a Research Associate, initially working on the EU funded FP7 projects SecureStation, Capacity4Rail and ENCOUNTER. I have also worked on the successful applications as a co-investigator for the Transport Innovation Centre partnership with the Transport Systems Catapult, for which I retained the role of Academic Manager; the GoF4R Shift2Rail project and NeTIRail-INFRA H2020 project. The NeTIRail-INFRA H2020 project is a 5.4m€ project co-ordinated by University of Sheffield, which I am project managing as well as contributing to technically.

My role at Network Rail centred on developing a research strategy and road map for the company and integrating this with European and UK railway strategies; developing and building consortia for EU FP7 funded projects and project managing Network Rail’s participation in these projects adding expertise and data from Network Rail and support of UK funded research programmes at a number of universities. This role also included support of operations where specialist knowledge was required.EU Projects:INNOTRACK – Working mainly on SP6: Life cycle costing and RAMS. I joined RRFCS as a test engineer and as the team rapidly expanded, rose to the position of team leader in 2006. Whilst in these positions I have been responsible for the electrochemical testing of the production and development test pieces as well as mechanical system components, including high voltage electrical breakdown testing, mechanical strength and other unique tests carried out in both our pressurised and atmospheric test rigs.
