As engineer and data scientist for the Imagination Laboratory, my responsibilities include: development and design of products used in the hospital; employing machine learning algorithms to time-series data to better characterize respiratory distress in infants; maintaining the additive manufacturing capabilities of the lab; supporting clinical research in collecting and analyzing data; and managing projects large and small. I see my team and I as agents and catalysts for innovation at the hospital and research institute.

My graduate research theme was engineering resilience into nuclear power stations. I approached my theme from an information standpoint, developing a first-of-its-kind decision-making aid in the face of limited information, a solution needed for severe accident situations. The aid was developed using machine learning algorithms on real plant data from Fukushima Daiichi and simulations of plant processes.

Worked at Seattle Children’s Hospital as a Research Engineer in their venture start-up NeoRest team developing an inexpensive and easy to use ventilator to support newborn infants; the goal being to reduce infant mortality in low-resource countries. Team worked collectively across engineering and clinical disciplines under a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant to develop the device and implement clinical trials.

Developed a novel method of fabricating iono-gel-based batteries using microwaves. My contributions were published in Journal of Materials Chemistry A.
