AirmanUs Coast Guard Oct 2004 - Jan 2005Savannah, Georgia AreaI was assigned to Air Station Savannah as an Airman. This is a program that introduces people to aviation and the complexities of working around aircraft. The program is also used as an introduction period were your abilities, and knowledge are tested and evaluated to determine whether you are allowed to further completion into the aviation field. While at this unit I was able to complete all required studies and task assign by the Airman Coordinator and was able to continue the program. I was in charge of checking ground support equipment for proper operation to ensure that the equipment was available for the maintenance of aircraft to be performed. I also was qualified as a Radio Watch stander which performed an overnight duties to monitor telephone and radio distress calls, and to alert Aircrew of pending and rapid launch of aircraft for search and rescue cases. During my time at this unit I successfully launched 47 positive search and rescue cases, 10 sub escorts, and 130 sortie's (missions). With the completion of this assignment I was able to continue my training as an Avionic Electrical Technician.

FiremanUs Coast Guard Jan 2004 - Oct 2004Cape May New JerseyI was assigned to the Coast Guard cutter Finback during this period. My job was to complete general to complete overhaul maintenance of an 87 foot cutter and a small deployable rigid hull inflatable (RHI) small boat. My maintenance levels include the complete renewal/overhaul of the cutters engine room as well as the electrical systems. During my short time at this unit I was qualified/ in charge of providing security and general watch of the cutter systems and support to ensure the cutter was able to deploy at moments notice. While underway/ deployed I was in charge of maintaining electrical systems, engine systems, water systems, and all onboard fire fighting equipment. This position is one of self reliant and self motivation. You have to be able to work mechanical and sometimes difficult problems with no input or support from other crew members.
