Current and recent work focusses on supporting charities with governance and strategy. During 2020-22 I supported a global network in developing a global quality standard for Volunteering For Development (and created the plan for the learning resources members would need), supported another global network in recruiting a Chair, and coordinated the process for developing a new strategy for charities which were merging. These and other consultancies have involved interviews, consultation, analysis, research, report writing - with a dash of my experience added in - leading to satisfactory conclusions for clients. From late 2022 to early 2024 I took a break to focus on my sports, competing at Masters (age group) level. In late 2022 I ranked 19th in Europe (squash) and in May/June 2024 I reached the quarter-finals of the British Open (squash) and the quarter-finals of the World Championships (Real Tennis). I started back on consultancy in June 2024 with global governance work for a growing British NGO. I am an experienced non-profit leader, with a business background and a track record of success. My non-profit career (30 years) has focussed on charity management, the international development and humanitarian sector, organisational capacity-strengthening, governance, quality standards, membership bodies, grant-giving (in the UK) and volunteer management. I have been part of, and project managed, consultancy projects for a variety of clients, both large (such as UNICEF. the FORUM network and the EU's DG for Humanitarian Aid Operations/ECHO) and small (such as the Muslim Charities Forum and the Da Capo Music Foundation). I have also taken on senior Interim roles.I have strengths in building and managing networks, relationship management and collaborative working. I know every aspect of running a charity ('money, mission, manpower, message, monitor....') - with long and first-hand experience in strategy development and implementation, future thinking and planning, people management, change, finance and fundraising, communications and marketing. I have worked with Boards for over 20 years, as a chief executive, Chair and a Trustee.I welcome ideas for stimulating and useful ways in which I can support those who might benefit from my skills or experience. Also: please enjoy my travel blogs on https://thebeardedstrangerworld.wordpress.com or buy the book in paperback or kindle (on Amazon: The Bearded Stranger, A Traveller's Tales).
