About Jonathan Prather
Director of the Life Sciences Program - Our curriculum spans many active-learning classroom and laboratory courses that collectively serve 2400 undergraduate students each year. I lead a team in developing data-driven approaches to assessing and improving our courses, providing opportunities and resources to help our students succeed, and facilitating students' timely graduation and pursuit of their professional goals. My goal is to blend the research, instructional and leadership components of my position to identify and implement new ways to improve undergraduate education.Principle Investigator of the Laboratory of Comparative Studies of Learning - We study the processes of perception, learning, memory, and action. We study animal models to learn how the brain enables these processes, and we study behaviors in the classroom to identify how student learning outcomes may benefit from social learning and new pedagogical tools such as interactive augmented reality to help them deepen their understanding of foundational concepts in introductory STEM courses. I have won funding from the National Science Foundation to support both of these lines of research (perception, learning and memory, as well as development of new tools and approaches in STEM education).
