This development involved conducting extensive research into complex mechanical thread designs with an emphasis on metal-to-metal seal capabilities. During this process, instituted a system to quickly and effectively analyze conceptual designs in Abaqus through parametric analysis. Also, used FEA to analyze and choose between hundreds of conceptual designs and developed post process tools to choose the best designs to move forward into the prototype phase. Successfully tested the prototyped product in a full scale laboratory setting for major customer and instituted the implementation of this product into Tenaris’ global production system. Lastly, this product line development has been continued with success across multiple casing and tubing pipe OD’s from 7 5/8” to 16” and has been tested successfully to the highest possible level in the industry (API RP 5C5:2016 – Connection Application Level IV).

An investigation was successfully conducted on whether or not the new flagship TenarisHydril Wedge 623® product could be achieved on these outer diameters.
