About Jonathan Ridpath
I grew up surrounded by food. My grandparents owned a bakery in south Florida, and my uncle owned a restaurant on Jacksonville Beach. I moved to Colorado at the age of 13 and begged my parents for a workers permit to start on my 14th birthday. 30 years later, I cannot imagine haveing gone another route. I have met so many amazing people on my journey. I moved to Seattle at 20 and got my first chance to be a Sous Chef. I quickly advanced and became passionate about creating new dishes and learning as much as possible about the industry. I learned to bartend and serve tables as side jobs working with many different styles of food in order to become a more well-rounded Chef. Having married and become a father at a young age, I understood how the economy worked, with its ebbs and flows. I often had to work two jobs to make ends meet paying child support and alimony. At one point a judge suggested if find a new line of work as being a chef was not conducive to being a parent. I disagreed, my daughters a both grown now and cook in restaurants. Once again, I remarried. This time to a woman who spoke only Spanish. This became one of my greatest tools. 7 years later, I have two beautiful sons who also want to be Chefs. Before covid, my wife and I had a food truck. During Covid times, I was put to the test managing grocery stores waiting for everything to open back up. It seems like since the restrictions were lifted, everything has changed. In many ways for the better. People were forced to change and adapt; the industry has done the same. I have jumped on every opportunity to learn and grow in this business. I am looking for creative freedom, not just financial freedom. I am excited to take my next step.
