Under parent company’s global newsroom strategy, I serve as the “face of the brand” for the Daily Report in Georgia. I advocate for local coverage and consult with national subject-area editors on news targets and audience metrics. I write a daily email to readers framing the news of the day. I also report breaking news articles and longer pieces. The Georgia Press Association awarded me second place for enterprise stories for my 2018 pieces on the lack of diversity in Gov. Nathan Deal’s judicial appointments, the state high court’s treatment of abortion and lawyers’ perceived stigma of mental health treatment. I also lead the Daily Report’s participation in a fundraiser for hungry children, develop and moderate panels for the Georgia Bar, Media and Judiciary Conference and emcee awards dinners for the legal community.

I was responsible for the editorial content in the Daily Report, a Monday-through-Friday newspaper and a continuously running website that serve the legal community of Georgia. I supervised six reporters and a copy editor and coordinated our efforts with a web editor, a special section editor, page designers and photographers. Daily stories were often complex, reflecting the nuances of court rulings and legal arguments. Long-term investigative pieces built on our beat knowledge to explain the issues deeper and more broadly.

My work included a behind-the-scenes description of how Olympic Park bomber Eric Robert Rudolph and his lawyers hatched his plea bargain; a three-part series on a law student who left school to join his National Guard unit in Iraq; coverage of a Kenyan immigrant’s deportation fight in the courts and Congress; and stories on when the Ten Commandments may be posted in government buildings.

I followed the U.S. Supreme Court and the Senate Judiciary Committee. I covered Bush v. Gore and dozens of other cases dealing with, among other things, the rights of pregnant women, the limits of environmental laws and a host of crime and punishment questions. I appeared on C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” and National Public Radio’s “Talk of the Nation.”
