WWE World Champion…At least that was my dream as a child. Growing up I was glued to the television wanting to be Bret Hart or Macho Man Randy Savage and would often put my sisters in holds to see if they really hurt. However reality was, I was not going to be a world champion. When a WWE (WWF at the time) superstar says that you won’t make it because you’re 5’7 and at the time 135 pounds (my wrestling weight in high school), you either get depressed or get determined. I did the latter, and wanted to prove my worth so joined the Army on a dare. My short-statured body enlisted in the Army and eventually rose in the ranks to eventually become Battalion Commander and in 2020 retired after 26 years, and multiple combat tours in the Army and Army Reserve with multiple awards and accolades. All of those awards meant nothing as I valued my Soldiers and my impact on them more. I learned how to lead by mimicking great leaders, and what not to do by toxic ones. Those traits have served me well in my career and as a civilian, choosing to be a leader and not just a manager. By listening to understand, and invested in the problem, issue, or goal. My impact is not in front of millions of fans on a global stage, but in 1:1 interactions as a mentor, a coach, and someone who encourages dreams and goals versus criticizing them. To see the big picture of where the company is going and where I, and my team, fit in.
