The work that I completed at SFSSI had a strong correlation with natural resource engineering and forestry papers I completed the academic year before starting which were called “Integrated Catchment Analysis” and “Geospatial Science in Forest Monitoring and Management.” In conjunction with the skills learnt from the courses and on job training, I was tasked with travelling to growers crops in Mid and South Canterbury to test for levels in main nutrients such as nitrogen or phosphate in soil and petiole samples. I would then compute this data into a graphical report format to suggest suitable agrichemicals to add to their crops.Another part of this job was being the main liaison at the company with a Canadian company called Resson Digital who specialised in agricultural remote sensing. Here I used GIS skills learnt at university to help show the parallels with nitrogen levels predicted from satellite imagery and actual results in specific areas of a crop which I had tested. I was given a lot of license to make decisions and trust in form of budget for the project, therefore the successful finished product I produced was extremely rewarding. I also gained a dangerous goods driving endorsement through SFSSI.

Summer Internship, mainly completing technical tasks specifically soil testing with a hand auger and a scalar penetrometer. Also included was writing the follow up site soils investigation report. Highlights include working on the Elm Green subdivison and other various trips away out of Christchurch to places such as Gore Bay, Tekapo and Castle Hill.

Summer internship researching how additive production (3D Printing) could benefit Link Engine Management, specifically in role of casing the Engine Control Units. Highlights include travelling to Callaghans Innovation in Wellington to view the research into additive production with metals.

Worked as a bandsaw operator at AW Fraser during the summer break between high school and university. Worked 10 hours a day on a 4 days on, 4 days off roster. Learnt how to operate a bandsaw and the correct procedures for transporting the product around different locations within the AW Fraser complex. It was also the perfect location to put my forklift licence to use and also gained an abundance of safety knowledge whilst working there.

Customer facing role. Working in the ski rental area fitting boots to customers, then cleaning and organising them at the end of the day when they were returned.
