Alumni Communications Officer

London, United Kingdom

I was part of a small but growing team, dedicated to stewarding a global alumni community of more than 250,0000.I oversaw communications including managing, scheduling and reporting on our regular e-communications and social media. I revamped our regular e-communications schedule, introducing a monthly segmented newsletter, collaborating with colleagues across the organisation to engage alumni in activities and opportunities that are relevant to them.I led on stewarding the experiences of our newest graduates and increasing the awareness of the alumni proposition amongst current students (in particular finalists) and co-led a university-wide project to review, streamline and improve communications to finalist students in preparation for transitioning to the alumni community.I was the chief copywriter for the University’s Greenwich Portraits case studies while I also managed, wrote and published the growing collection of Greenwich Snapshots case studies. Since May 2020 we published over 150 alumni case studies via Greenwich Snapshots, helping showcase the vast array of professions and experiences our graduates go on to. Not only were we able to share some of the favourite memories of our graduates, but these stories showcase the immense value of a Greenwich degree and can help inspire the next generation of Greenwich students. In November 2020, we launched the first issue of our online alumni magazine, The 1890. I project led the first three issues, in addition to commissioning and producing content.

Jan 2019 - Jan 2023

Membership Marketing Officer

London, United Kingdom

Working in a small, dedicated team, my primary role was to assist the Membership Manager in the growth, retention and stewardship of the membership and patron schemes as well as develop the legacy marketing strategy. Alongside colleagues in my team I became an expert in using and maintaining our database (ThankQ) and helped drive the organisation’s response to the introduction of the GDPR.During my time with the organisation our membership numbers rose by 25% to a record high of over 2,200 members. One key contributor to this success was increasing engagement with members. I introduced a regular communication schedule, including a monthly e-newsletter, after identifying a lack of regular engagement with members as a priority to address when I joined the organisation.

Nov 2016 - Jan 2019

Membership Officer

London, United Kingdom

My primary role was to assist the membership Manager in the growth, retention and stewardship of the 20,000+ members of the organisation. I was also responsible for developing the membership communications schedule, ensuring that members were kept up-to-date regularly with news from across the museums. Regular communication was a key element in the stewardship of existing members and was something which I was able to shape during my time at the organisation.I also led the organisation of and delivering Members Events. This involved liaising with internal and external stakeholders to create bespoke experiences. In January 2016 I led a review of our member events strategy. This process involved running focus groups with members and staff, benchmarking against, and meeting with, industry peers, presenting research to staff and culminating with a new events programme rolled out through summer and autumn 2016.

Jun 2015 - Nov 2016

Membership Office Volunteer

London

I assisted with the administration of the membership office and also shaped the membership team's increased social media activity, working with colleagues in the marketing and digital media teams to increase the presence of the membership offer through IWM's website and social media channels.

Mar 2015 - May 2015

Commercial Experience Assistant

Science Museum, London

Working within the Visitor Services team I provided visitors to the museum with an Enhanced Visitor Engagement. Primarily this meant finding ways to upsell their visit through the purchase of tickets for the museum's attractions while I was also a point of information.

Feb 2015 - May 2015

Museum Volunteer

Museum Of The Order Of St John

London, United Kingdom

My first role was to assist on a digitisation project of the Museum's collections management database. After 6 weeks working on this project I developed my skills and understanding of the museum sector, working on other projects and tasks. One of my biggest achievements with the Museum was to assist in the research and application of copyright for visual media that related to a HLF-funded project at the Museum. Working within brand new EU legislation on orphan works I helped the Museum to become the first UK institution to use the Orphans Work Register for a large project.

Sep 2014 - May 2015

Collections Volunteer

Royal Philatelic Society London

London, United Kingdom

Working with newly acquired items to the museum, I worked with these items throughout the full accession process. This included fully accessioning them into the museum's collection and digitally recording all of the object information onto the Adlib database that the museum uses. As the museum has recently received its accreditation status, this meant I was working to SPECTRUM compliant conservation standards. This role compliments my work with the Museum of the Order of St John by offering me experience of using a similar, but different database system whilst also allowing me to experience how different museums operate in different ways. This role is also giving me a more hands-on approach to collections management, developing my skills in object handling and giving me my first taste in the accessions process.

Oct 2014 - Mar 2015

Visitor Welcome Coordinator, St John Maddermarket

As the first incumbent of this role I acted as a facilitator between the Trust’s Volunteer Officer of the South East region and the Church’s stewards who, like me, were the staff on the ground level. Responsibilities included managing the online rota for our volunteers as well as ensuring all communication between paid and voluntary staff regarding the site and other Trust business was up-to-date. I was able to provide a more permanent presence for other volunteers at the church meaning that if any problems arose then they could have been swiftly acted upon.
