As an attorney assigned to the Government Operations and Litigation team I provide legal advice to county agencies and represent the county in all stages of civil litigation. I am the primary legal advisor for Pierce County on contracting and procurement issues related to the county's $3.2 billion biennial budget. I provide legal advice and counsel on contracts in the negotiation, drafting, compliance, and dispute stages to various county agencies and elected officials, including the Pierce County Council and the Pierce County Executive. I have extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal procurement and contracting regulations and guidelines and I strategically analyze contractual agreements to reduce risk and ensure compliance with the law. I also assist as needed with providing legal advice to various county departments and elected officials on a wide variety of issues.

As an attorney assigned to the Violent Crimes Trial Team, I handled class A felony cases, including homicides. My duties included conducting complex trials, reviewing investigations, questioning witnesses both informally and under oath, and collaborating with the investigators who worked on my cases. I was also selected to serve on the RCW 36.27.130 Resentencing Committee and assisted with developing and implementing standards for reviewing felony cases under the newly passed legislation.

At the Attorney General’s Office I worked in the Sexually Violent Predator Unit where I represented the state in all aspects of SVP involuntary civil commitment litigation. This included investigations, discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, jury selection, trials, and appeals. A large part of my practice involved litigating evidentiary issues pertaining to expert witness testimony, and cross-examining defense retained forensic psychological experts.

I was employed as a deputy prosecuting attorney with the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office. While there, I handled hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases in all stages of litigation, and tried numerous felony trials to verdict. As part of my duties I reviewed investigations and questioned witnesses both informally and under oath. During my last few years with the office I was assigned to assist the civil division with defending the county in tort litigation.
