About Jonathan Savage

I'm the Managing Director of UCan Play, a not-for-profit music education sales and consultancy company. Additionally, I'm the Regional Programme Director for Restore the Music UK, the leading UK charity that supports music education across England through the provision of charitable grants to schools. In my previous work, I led PGCE courses for Music and Specialist Instrumental Teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University with the Royal Northern College of Music for twenty years. I'm a published author having written twenty books for Routledge, OUP, SAGE and many other publishers on a range of topics associated with music, education and technology. Finally, I have authored numerous academic articles in international and national music education journals.

    I started UCan Play with two friends back in 2005. Over the years, the business has grown steadily and taken on different activities. We are principally a not for profit, educational sales and consultancy business, working in the music education sector. Our sales business turns over around £1.5m each year. UCan Play runs the UCan Studios near Sandbach. These studios provide a well-equipped space for local bands and musicians to come and rehearse, record or live stream their work. We also run a music teaching programme with a team of self-employed tutors. We provide lessons for piano, keyboard, guitar and drums.

I oversaw the development of the charity during this period, culminating in the appointment of the Love Music Trust as the Hub Lead Organisation for music education across the whole of Cheshire and the Wirral. In September 2024, we appointed a new independent chair of the Love Music Trust to reflect the broader remit of the Trust as the hub lead organisation across the whole of Cheshire and the Wirral. I was happy to stand down from my position at this point but look forward to support the Love Music Trust in its next exciting phase as a trustee.
