This Gates funded, 4 year 22 million USD, innovative project successfully brought together international research organizations (IITA, FERA and NRI), 10 National Agriculture Research programs, 60 local NGOs, and more than 3000 farmer groups to deliver clean, disease tolerant cassava cuttings to more than 1.2 million farm families in six countries (Burundi, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda). The project bridged the continuum of research and development at scale. As Deputy Director and Training Objective Leader, accomplishments included the following:- Led country planning, reporting, performance review, communication, gender and diversity, and bi-annual project learning meetings.- As Training Objective Leader, coordinated farmer participatory variety selection and integrated crop management trials as well as capacity building for local implementing partner staff to deliver quality services to participating farmer groups. - Collaborated with Cornell University to develop and test training materials. - Partnered with NetHope and Intel to pilot rugged mini-laptop computers for use by partner field staff in Training (Agilix GoCourse platform) and Monitoring and Evaluation (Adobe Air).
Senegambia Development Assistance Program Manager
- Led USAID SeneGambia Development Assistance Program for CRS based in The Gambia. - Coordinated cash and food resource management and project implementation teams in both Senegal and The Gambia.- Under the joint supervision of the Country Representatives (CR) in both countries, directly supervised five program managers including one international position. - Led participatory development and implementation of detailed exit strategies with nine partners through the acquisition of an Amendment to allow time for responsible program closure. - The primary objective of the program was to enable participating sesame farmers to increase their access to food security by improving their production and marketing of sesame. - Key activities included Farmer Field Schools on improving sesame production, on farm multiplication of improved sesame seed, provision of functional numeracy classes, training in sesame marketing and in agro-enterprise.

- Built and managed a team of four agronomists and a marketing specialist, - Ensured the high quality start up and implementation of the agricultural components (market gardening and sustainable agriculture) of the 2004-2009 DAP, as well as the 2004-2007 Market Oriented Sesame Project. - In addition, in 2005 we successfully served 8,500 vulnerable locust and drought affected farm families through the CRS Seed Fair methodology with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates and Marisla Foundations.
