I am a Professor of Neurology at UCL with particular expertise in dementia and Alzheimer's disease, and Chief Medical Officer for Alzheimer's Research UK, Europe's biggest dementia research charity.And well as running a busy clinical service, I lead a number of translational research projects in the dementias, with particular interests in how clinical assessment, imaging and fluid biomarkers and genetics can be combined to improve differential diagnosis and identify pre-symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.My areas of expertise include the clinical evaluation of individuals with established and suspected dementia; blood, spinal fluid and imaging biomarkers; and clinical trial design.I hold research grants in excess of $10M, including co-leading the mental ageing programme of the MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing, and leading Insight 46 a major neuroimaging study of the MRC National Survey of Health and Development British 1946 Birth Cohort.I edited the Oxford Textbook of Cognitive Neurology and Dementia, and have published over 250 papers in the field of dementia and ageing (H-index 63).I have a significant national and international leadership experience. As well as my role as CMO for ARUK, I chair the Advisory Council of the International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Therapy; represent the UK on the European Academy of Neurology Dementia Panel; chair the Association of British Neurology (ABN) Dementia Panel, and serve on the ABN Research Committee. I am committed to medical and science education. I am a Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and have supervised over 20 PhD candidates and serve as a mentor to a number of senior and junior colleagues.I have extensive industry links and have consulted for amongst others, Roche, Eli Lilly, Biogen, Merck, GE Healthcare, Axon Neuroscience and Cytox.
