I am a dedicated and purpose driven Chief Executive, Non-Executive and Chair. I was the founding Chief Executive of VoiceAbility, a prominent third sector national rights and voice organisation that supports disabled people and people facing disadvantage or discrimination. I led VoiceAbility for 14 years- multiplying its impact and influence. My career is characterised by commitment to enhancing human rights, promoting social inclusion, and engendering systemic change, including in health and social care. I have led successful work to strengthen legislation, policy and practice, including securing major changes to social care and health legislation and direction from the Care Act (2014) to current proposals for mental health law reform. I have extensive board, chairing and non-executive experience. I currently serve as the Chair of the Public Law Project (PLP), an independent national legal charity which aims to promote the rule of law, ensure fair systems, and improve access to justice. As Chair of the Board of Trustees at SHP (the Single Homeless Project), I oversaw the organisation's transformation to focus on people with complex and multiple needs, resulting in substantial growth and dramatically increasing its impact. My roles have also included Chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline Committee on Learning Disabilities and Challenging Behaviour, where I oversaw the development authoritative, evidence-based recommendations for systemic change in a vital and contested area of health and social care. I am passionate about people having the opportunity to lead a good life, and about social justice and fairness.
