Jonathan R. Sennett is the Chief of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau (VCEB) in the Office of the Queens County District Attorney (QDA), where he manages a dozen attorneys in the investigation and prosecution of gang-motivated violence and firearms trafficking. Prior to overseeing the formation of the QDA’s VCEB in 2020, Sennett was the First Deputy Chief of the VCEB in the Office of the Kings County (Brooklyn) District Attorney from 2015-2020. Working closely with the NYPD’s Gang Squad and Gun Violence Suppression Division, he developed processes for investigating and prosecuting long-term, multi-defendant conspiracy cases through the use of digital evidence ranging from surveillance video to cell phone evidence to social media evidence. Sennett began his career in the Office of the Bronx County District Attorney in 1994 and tried over 30 violent felony cases to jury verdict, including a case involving a shootout in close quarters between members of the NYPD and a domestic violence offender. After nearly six years in the Bronx, he went on to private practice to try asbestos-related personal injury cases, representing clients with mesothelioma. For the next decade, Sennett was a criminal defense lawyer handling trials and appeals. In 2012, he returned to prosecution with the NYS Organized Crime Task Force to investigate and prosecute complex criminal enterprises through the use of electronic surveillance, including wiretaps.Mr. Sennett has taught Trial Advocacy as an adjunct professor of law since 2011 at St. Johns University, Pace University, and Brooklyn Law School. He is also a regular lecturer with the NYPD’s Detective Training Unit on the subject of interrogations and the use of surveillance video as evidence.
