Jonathan Singer is a Professor of Medicine at UC San Francisco. His clinical practice and research program is focused in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation. He is the Associate Medical Director of the Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplant clinical program and also founded and now co-Directs the UCSF Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplant Research Program. The latter is a cross-Departmental group of investigators focused on clinical outcomes, translational, and basic research aimed at addressing the fields' most pressing needs.His specific research applies aging-related principles to study patient-centered outcomes in advanced lung disease and lung transplant along three themes:1) Improving transplant candidate risk stratification by investigating frailty and body composition2) Patient Centered Outcomes: including functioning, disability, Health-Related Quality of Life(HRQL), and survival3) Developing and validating novel instruments to measure HRQL, functioning/disability, andfrailty for use in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation. The measures he developed -the Lung Transplant Quality of Life scale (LT-QOL), Lung Transplant-Valued Life Activities scale(LT-VLA), the Lung Transplant Frailty Scale (LT-FS), and the Fried Frailty Phenotype-DASI (FFP-DASI) are among the few patient-reported outcome and frailty measures developed specificallyfor the field.He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He completed a combined Masters in Health and Medical Sciences from the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley and a medical degree at UCSF as part of the Joint Medical Program. He remained at UCSF, where he completed a residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowships in Pulmonary, Critical Care Medicine, and Lung/Heart-Lung Transplantation. He is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He is a member of the International Society for Heart and Lung transplantation and American Thoracic Society. He is a core investigator with the UCSF Respiratory Epidemiology Group and served as Chair of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation Pulmonary Council Quality of Life Workforce from 2012-2021.Academic Profile available at:
