I work as an Analytical Lead within the Analytical Development Group, which involves supervising numerous activities, such as in-process sample testing to support process development, process characterization, formulation and method qualification/validation studies. I provide customers with analytical updates and discuss the project requirements during regularly teleconferences and occasional face to face meetings.In addition to supervising scientists assigned to my projects, I have line management responsibility of some junior members of the Analytical Development Group.

I worked within a new manufacturing facility focused on the development and manufacture of monoclonal antibody biosimilars. I worked within the QC department where I was responsible for establishing the stability study function, writing the related policies and procedures, and creating study protocol and report templates. I also contributed to CQA assessments and defining the strategy for performing analytical method validation.

From May 2011 until June 2013 I worked within the Method Development and Validation Group. I developed, transferred, evaluated and validated HPLC methods required for the testing of antibodies, I also took part in SDS-PAGE method evaluation and validation studies, and performed testing using MALDI-ToF-MS. In this role I was required to write standard operating procedures, protocols and reports. In June 2013 I began working as Study Director, and was responsible for validation studies within Lonza Biologics coordinating analytical testing across the global Lonza facilities and collating data. The role involved authoring and reviewing study protocols and reports for validation and characterisation studies. In both roles it was sometimes necessaey to speak with customers at meetings, teleconferences or by telephone about the progress of studies, and to answer concerns they may have had.

The majority of my time was spent as part of a team working towards the submission of a biological licence application with the FDA for a therapeutic biologic drug product. I performed various roles that included the development and validation of SDS-PAGE, western blot, and HPLC methods, and co-ordination of forced degradation studies. I also participated in the testing of drug substance and drug product stability samples, and the support of process validation studies. I was required to write standard operating procedures, development reports and validation reports. I had responsibility of supervising other members of staff, and providing training.

The aim of the work was the isolation and characterisation of selected proteins from plant microsomes. The work involved the use of ion exchange HPLC, dye affinity chromatography and electrophoresis, followed by in-gel tryptic digestion and peptide sequencing using mass spectroscopy.
