I'm a fisheries stock assessment scientist, specialising in fisheries modelling. My work focuses on determining how many fish are in the ocean and how many we should catch. I lead and conduct fisheries research across a range of projects and I have provided scientific advice to managers, industry members, advisory committees and Ministers. Over the past 10+ years I have worked on multiple Australian and International fisheries in both tropical and temperate environments.I have a comprehensive understanding of fish biology, fisheries, statistics and well developed communication skills that allow me to perform complex analyses while still being able to communicate my research to a broad and diverse audience. I'm an accomplished programmer and have published multiple R packages that are being regularly applied across scientific literature. I completed my PhD in 2017 and have since led large fisheries research programs and have recently been appointed as an Affiliate Associate Professor at Flinders University.I'm best known fisheries modelling but my background was originally in fish biology. While working in fisheries, I've transitioned from being a biologist to a stock assessment modeller due to my strong statistical and programming skills. I'm currently a Principal Fisheries Scientist based in Townsville. I build stock assessment models, develop management strategy evaluations and conduct analyses to support sustainable fisheries. I excel in communicating complex topics to broad audiences and I make large efforts to engage with fishing industry stakeholders to communicate relevant science and assessments. I also supervise honours and PhD students working on fisheries sciences projects at Flinders University and James Cook University.I'm a big believer in collaboration and believe that a strong and supportive team environment leads to the greatest possible results. I'm always on the look out for ways to further fisheries science through my own research or by helping others.
