About Jonathan Spaulding

Jonathan Spaulding is a physicist with an interest in data analysis, highly trained to seek the underlying principles of a system, reduce its complexity, model the system, and develop actionable conclusions from the data. His primary focus is in the simulation and modeling of the electrical system of microwave weapons for the Air Force Research Lab. Here, he modeled several types of dielectric windows, designing two new styles of window that would resist damage due to electron multipactor. He also functioned as assistant program manager for the entire High Power Microwave Institute (HPMI), totaling $5 million /year, 11 scienctists, and 5 million computer hours.Before this, Jonathan was a student in the Masters and PhD programs. Here he studied multipactor and solar flare prediction.Jonathan's job before that was as Principal Physicist of the polarization lab, a world-class one-of-a-kind lab where materials were identified by their reflective properties. The data from these tests can be used to separate materials into 'manmade' and 'natural' at a distance using only reflected light.Classifying targets can also be done by shape, which is the other big thrust of this job. Using graph theory techniques, as well as older techniques such as line and shape, targets in an image can be recognized by a computer.
