Responsible for developing new preclinical assay development projects and maintenance of existing client base

Scheduling of DNA extraction/sequencing team members • Instrumental in the acquiring and maintaining of all CLIA and state/local licenses • Quality Assurance record keeping and management of documentation • Writing and reviewing of all laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) • Supervise and train new lab hires • Collect and track personnel performance metrics • Collect and maintain all required CLIA required personnel training certifications/licenses • Design and implement/track all laboratory proficiency testing requirements to include CAP certification • Be a trusted team member and considered as a “go-to” person to field questions • Perform complex testing according to established SOPs • Operate automated 8-span and 96-head liquid handling platforms for sample processing • Operate DNA/RNA extraction and quantification instruments • Operate and maintenance of next generation sequencing equipment to include Ion Torrent Chef, PGM, and Proton • Design, order, validate, and implementation of custom next generation sequencing primer panels • Ordering and inventory keeping of all laboratory reagents, equipment, and consumables • Ensure performance of daily, weekly, monthly and as needed equipment maintenance checks • Lead the team in reagent and assay quality control and validations as needed • Flexibility to cover scheduling gaps as needed and to be included in the on-call rotation for additional weekend and/or holiday technical support. • Development, validation, and implementation of approved Next Generation Sequencing Laboratory Developed Test

Development and validation of CLIA approved qPCR Taqman Genotyping Assays, Open Array, Taqman Card Assays, and Ion Torrent Next Generation Sequencing Diagnostics, RT-PCR assays, Western Blot • Assist in development and validation of ELISA based clinical diagnostic assays • Assist in Pharmocogenomic services for clients including: Robotic platform nucleic acid purification, ApoE Invader Assay, FDA cleared GenMark diagnostic testing for drug metabolism assessment of Plavix and Warfarin, ELISA screening assays, and qPCR • Assist in VAP Lipid Auto Profiling Screening Assays • Development of centrifugation techniques for DNA purification • Responsible for inventory and maintenance of PCR and DNA clinical samples • Development of in house DNA extraction techniques • Validation and maintenance of various testing equipment to include: ABI 7900 real time thermal cycler, QuantStudio 12k Flex and 6 real time thermal cyclers, Ion Torrent PGM and Proton Next Generation Sequencing, Beckman and Tecan platform liquid handling system integration, various centrifuges, and routine molecular detection equipment • Development and implementation of LIMS for Genetic lab • Supervisory role of junior research assistants in the lab • Point of contact for interpretation of genetic testing results for customer and client service associates • Development and implementation of SOP (Standard Operation Procedures) for various CLIA approved testing

Assist in the coordination of in-vitro and in-vivo laboratory assays for government and commercial clients including: MIC, antibiotic formulation, serial dilution, plating for bacteremia and various other assays within BSL-2 and BSL-3 containment facilities • Perform statistical data analysis on all projects and report results to project manager and clients utilizing Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project software • Assist in development of inhalational exposure models of potential bioterror agents including Bacillus anthracis, Burkholderia spp., Yersinia pestis , Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv and influenza • Perform microbiology procedures within BSL-2/BSL-3 containment facilities to include: propagation, dilution, and bacterial load testing of microorganisms used in bioaerosol sprays • Perform molecular biological experiments within BSL-2/BSL-3 containment facilities to include PCR and Plasmid DNA prep using QIAGEN and /or BioRad DNA Kits • Responsible for all cell culture and maintenance of cell lines to include: the propagation and maintenance of J774A.1, McCoy, and HEp-2 cell lines • Development and characterization of intracellular screening assays of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Chlamydia spp., and Neisseria spp. • Perform microbial enumeration within BSL-2/BSL-3 containment facilities utilizing Protocol II bacteria colony count systems • Perform bacterial propagation and characterizations within BSL-2/BSL-3 containment facilities: to include growth, characterization, and testing of various important nosocomial microbial pathogens, including anaerobic bacteria using glovebox • Provide support to in-vitro studies by processing animal tissues and blood for bacterial load using OMNIprep Tissue Homogenization system • Research and review relevant literature and implement strategies to make projects more efficient • Train and mentor new employees in biosecurity and software used for capturing data

Manage multiple microbiological/molecular biological projects concurrently with minimal supervision • Design virology, infectious disease and microbiological experiments • Construction of proviral plasmids and clonal libraries for neutralizing antibody studies in conjunction with The Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD) • Execution of all cell and tissue culture, transfection of proviral plasmids including propagation of virus • Responsible for analytical test procedures according to GLP guidelines and regulations • Responsible for improvement of research capabilities by researching new equipment and software to increase productivity • Responsible of implementation of new software to increase data capturing and improve confidentiality methods in our research • Preparation and sequencing of HIV proviral plasmids • Performing ELISA and p24 Assays related to project • Extensive PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, and Sequencing analysis • Construction and design of Standard Operating Procedures for lab management including database management of plasmids and cell lines • Develop assays for virological procedures • Perform statistical data analysis on all projects and report results to project manager and clients • Brainstorm with colleagues and supervisors to overcome obstacles in projects • Prioritize daily tasks in accordance to deadlines given by management • Log experimental outlines and results for documentation and future reference • Responsible for completing and achieving deadlines with minimal supervision
