I coordinated all aspects of a multi-year research project, including permits, selection and purchasing of equipment, experimental designs and protocols, transportation of hatchery fish, collection and transportation of wild fish, experimental setup, marking/tagging of fish, data collection, data analysis, and reporting. I recruited, trained, and supervised four paid assistants, two regular volunteers, and at times up to fifteen intermittent volunteers. Studies included experiments comparing response of wild and hatchery stocks to translocation and reintroduction, experiments investigating effects of non-native trout on recently reintroduced natives, a survey of disease prevalence in wild trout, a telemetry/mark-recapture investigation of movement of reintroduced and resident trout, and removal of non-native trout from specific stream reaches. -

I developed a field strategy, served as leader of six-person project team, managed/analyzed the data, and prepared a report for Lassen National Forest. The study involved locating Cascades frog breeding sites, monitoring developing egg masses, swabbing/assessing frogs for signs of disease, conducting focused observations of leech/amphibian interactions, and collecting and identifying six species of leech from the Lassen region, including several species not previously recorded. The study was published in the journal Northwestern Naturalist. -
