Service engineer working with the Axis Supra; an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer with a large number of accessories, including gas cluster surface etching, ultra-violet photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. This wide array of accessories has allowed me to apply my keen aptitude for learning to pick up new techniques and skills in quick succession. Hands on engineering work has allowed me to not only understand the theory but the mechanical aspects of the instrument. This role includes a portion of national and international travel along with working within the UK to test, update and repair components for use within the field and for development projects in time sensitive situations. Both on fully functioning instruments and purpose built test rigs. Building from my previous role I was quickly involved with updating and maintaining user manuals and test procedures for both end users and in house staff. Working with ultra high vacuum instruments (x10-10 Torr), high gas pressures and sample temperatures ranging from -150 °C to +800 °C has allowed me to improve my safe handling practices and observational skills. The ability to understand, explain and follow electrical and mechanical schematics enables me to communicate directly via phone, email and remote control sessions to diagnose issues and re-assure customers of safe handling of the instrument.

Graduate X-ray physicist within a research and development team. I worked closely with both production and engineering teams on development of X-ray sources for use within Co-ordinate measuring machines.I introduced new techniques and test procedures to production and packing teams for development pieces. Worked hands on with X-ray barrels and sources requiring an understanding of the forces and tolerances in play. From weight changes of 1000th's of grams, working with vacuum conditions of up to 10-7mbar and working within high voltage environments of up to 750kV.
