I am currently retired (full-time); I work for no company (though interested in tutoring students (online) in advanced math and science courses they hope to take in the near future. Any of the previous TMSA information refers to the last school of my career in education. I taught in California and North Carolina schools and am now (July 31, 2021 to present) living retired in South Carolina.

At TMSA, my title was middle school science teacher. TMSA was my third charter school and the most amazing years of learning with others in the field of education. For me, there was no place better than TMSA, to end my teaching career and retire. But do educators really ever stop teaching or working, most often volunteering in some area of education? My experience says no, and so my journey as a pantologist continues. But for now, I wait to see where it leads. I started my career in teaching in 1997, age 43 and now, 24 years later I am leaving the classroom, most likely forever, but I hope I will never stop learning and learning with others as often as possible. Sources of knowledge can be replaced with books, websites, and self-paced learning modules, but real time learning with others is irreplaceable. Upright and moving forward, and as always, cheers! My first job at a private school, my second job at a small school. Amazing administrators, staff, faculty, and students. My teaching duties included teaching the following: science, math, and intro to logic. Other duties included: Athletic Director and middle school girls basketball coach.

Back in the saddle teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science to 20-25 students six times daily with a science lab period 5 days a week and tutoring after school. A Charter School in the mountains of western North Carolina with big plans, dedicated faculty, and awesome students.

During this second break from traditional classroom teaching, I thoroughly enjoyed the third shift stocking position I applied for and in the last days of employment, an early shift working in the garden department. Best take aways were: boxes don't talk back and stay where you place them, and plants show their appreciation of your effort in care, especially the watering. Oh, did I mention the joy in helping customers in the garden department? Kennedy was my first charter school with a small cast of amazing administrators, faculty, and staff. I taught classroom and lab science to high school students 9th through 12th grade. Classes included Biology, Physical Science, and Earth and Environmental Science. Tutored students after school and chaperoned extracurricular school activities. Unofficial school photographer for school events and sports.

Stepping away from traditional classroom teaching, I offered specialized services in construction and education. Most types of home or business construction including landscaping. Also tutoring services offered for middle, high school, and college students in areas of mainly science and math with other fields of education available on a case by case basis. Mentoring services available for teachers in the area of discipline, classroom management, and curriculum.

Science Teacher at the one high school serving all of Madison County, NC

A high school science position, filling in for a teacher out on maternity leave. Clyde A. Erin high school with about 1200 students that year was much larger than BRS but still no where near John C. Fremont High School. The classes were still small compared to LAUSD classes.

My first true small, North Carolina public school, grades pre-K-12, one of only six such schools in NC that year. I was the only life science teacher, one of only two science teachers in the school, the other being the physical science teacher. This school of approximately 230 students was so different than the innercity school of approximately 5,000 students I had taught at for the previous seven years. BRS was so unique, there really is no school with which I can compare it. From the 7th grade class and our Nature Trail classes held outdoors and from which many came back inside wet from head to toe and with shoes squeaking, walking down the hallway, all the way to the classroom, to the four highschool students in my Biology II course, BRS was a one-of-a-kind school indeed.I taught only the one year, and regret leaving, even though it was a two hour commute one way, Tropical Storm Ivan arrived that year resulting in the blockage of one of only two roads to BRS at the top of the mountain, and as assistant coach of the co-ed soccer team, returning to the school after away games as late as 11pm. This experience was unique and I will always treasure the memories of our 2005 class of 13 graduating seniors and this one line in that year's commencement speaker's speech, as he pointed at each one of the graduating seniors sitting there in the front row, he said, "I remember the first time meeting everyone of you in your kindergarten class" though he endearingly pronounced it "Kindygartin". What an amazing introduction this was to me of North Carolina schools. So different from innercity Los Angeles schools. A small town experience after Los Angeles, California.
