Over a decade of formal experience as an educator in scholastic settings (on top of more informal experiences in homes and shelters) has solidified my conviction that everyone has an innate desire and ability to learn, given the tools to overcome routine barriers and environments rewarding their natural curiosity. Most of my gratification has come from working directly with students in a tutoring/teaching role, helping them discover and leverage their intellectual strengths to tackle challenging problems in new areas (particularly STEM, where many students are least confident). As a curriculum developer (and now Learning Center Program Assistant), I also enjoy finding innovative ways to implement educational technologies that deepen students' engagement with their course material and larger curricular objectives.
