I am a university academic with an interest democratisation through arts and culture, particularly in 'development' situations -- political interventions in policies and politics, organisations and management, spaces and places. I am Co-Editor-in-Chief (with Rajnaara Akhtar) of The Journal of Law, Social Justice and Global Development. My areas of research are the politics of contemporary public culture, creative economy and the cultural development of local urban economy, the European Union cultural and urban policy, and the discourse of global sustainability in International Development. I engage with policy makers, researchers and creative practitioners. I have chaired and taught at public seminars and conferences for a wide range of subjects. I write reports, criticism, and have conducted a range of consultancy work. In Coventry, I am currently involved in the Albany Theatre's capital development, and the Spon Spun Festival. I am an approved child fosterer and adopter. I am Welsh, but have lived in various parts of England since the age of 11 (London being the longest). For five years (in my twenties) I lived in a peace community, and still maintain a strong antipathy for the social alienation we all accept as normal. Apart from my obvious cultural interests, I also like documentary photography, playing guitar, world film, live music, and travel.
