I joined Landscape Structures start up division Skways in January of 2017, a year and a half after the formation of the division. At Skways we design shade solutions for our customers needs that abide by the building codes and specifications defined by the end user’s. Our structures consisted large steel fabricated assemblies interfacing with fabric membrane canopies. As a startup division of a well-established company with a formidable sales force we have experience exponential growth and the problems that come with it. Being that our division operates independent for the most part of the parent division it has made the tackling of this growth an arduous challenge. Working as a design engineer in this division I have had to become more disciplined in my own tasks and aware of my impact to the entire process where as well-developed process and systems of a more experience company would otherwise have insulated. In my current role I handle the design of custom product, standardization of product, new product design, creation of process, product inspection, resource management, manufacturing innovation, and creating solutions. Overall operating in this capacity has made me as a designer take ownership of every piece of information that I release.

As a Design Engineer working in the Order Related Engineering department at Sulzer Pump USA I partook in the production, design, and BOM creation of API Centrifugal Pumps & Pump Packages on per order basis. These pumps encompassed design elements such as pressure retention, rotating components, product assembly, and customer specifications. These designs had to comply with standards defined by API, Sulzer, and the Customer. The designs were than translated into casting / machining / fabrication / assembly drawings. Also required was interfacing with the customer and sub-vendors to clearly define the design and requirements of the pump and pump package. This position required a high degree of problem solving skills due to problems that would arise during the manufacture of the pump. As the design engineer when a problem would occur it was our responsibly asses the problem and the determine the best solution possible while taking into consideration fiscal, schedule, and design ramifications. During my 3 years in ORE I was instrumental in the design of over a dozen orders. My other duties consisted of developing best practices for modeling, troubleshooting 3-D models/assemblies, performing design calculation, being the go to for any assistance required by other senior engineers.
