About Jonathan Wagstaff
I am a pursuing an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree at UC Santa Cruz. With a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Business Management minor at Brigham Young University, I have experience in the medical device and robotics fields. Currently I am working as an R&D intern at Stryker designing next generation cannulas and pumps for arthroscopic applications. My greatest interest within the engineering world is medical device development. Within that industry, I have experience in almost the entire lifecycle of a product. The projects I have worked on have involved concept development, new product design, supporting first in man cases, and manufacturing. Because of these projects I was able to collaborate with a variety of company functions such as process development, regulatory affairs, global marketing, and quality assurance. Furthermore, the products I have worked with have been in the neurovascular and sports medicine medical spaces.Aside from working with medical devices, much of my experience has been in the design of control systems and robots. As a team lead on the BYU Mars Rover Team, I assisted in the design of a six degree-of-freedom robotic arm. In the process, I helped develop an optimization algorithm to determine appropriate DH parameters including link lengths for a robotic arm to perform well in our desired workspace. Other responsibilities as a team leader were to help manage resources, coordinate project timelines, and organize assignments. Some of my life goals are owning my own medical device patents, starting a business, and being known as a man of integrity. In my free time I enjoy playing lacrosse, backpacking, playing pickleball, reading a good book, and roller skating with my wife. Normally, I have a side project going on that usually involves electronics, making furniture, or sewing. I feel that giving back to the community is a crucial aspect of life, so I seek out opportunities to volunteer.Skills:Programming Languages: C, C++, MATLAB, Python, Swift, TypescriptCAD: Siemens NX, SolidworksFEA: Ansys, COMSOLOther: LabVIEW
