Crimean Vodka Company was responsible for the Ukraine market in the EBC Eastern Beverage Company Group.I was responsible for a production and distribution business employing 2000 people with a direct sales structure servicing 30,000 retail outlets. I formulated overall business strategy, revitalised product design and determined shelf pricing increasing market share.

As an executive member of the board I was heavily involved in the presentation and agreement of strategy and budgets with the group’s shareholders. On a day to day basis I managed and developed the finance, production, purchasing, HR, logistics and IT divisions ensuring cost improvement, compliance with international standards and timely fulfilment of corporate objectives.

A member of the developing markets management team reporting direct to a member of the Gallaher Group PLC board I was responsible for the delivery of the annual budgeted financial results for the division as a whole and for hands on operational aspects of individual markets as required. This at various times included sales and marketing in a new trading market, cost control and operations at an international production site, union negotiations in different countries, and design and implementation of tax efficient international supply chain structures.

Liggett-Ducat was the first major independent international acquisition by Gallaher Group PLC. The deal completed in August 2000 and I was appointed by Gallaher immediately after the acquisition. As Deputy MD I was responsible for the performance of the finance, IT, logistics, legal (including litigation) and corporate affairs divisions totalling 750 people.

I joined a small team responsible for the construction, registration and subsequent operation of a green field production site in Kazakhstan. As Finance Director I was responsible for finance, legal, IT and all aspects of government relations establishing sound working relationships with local government and with the tax and customs authorities.

As the founder and managing director of the firm I established the company, organised office space, recruited the first staff and organised their training, established and grew the client base (including advising the Kazakhstan privatisation authority on a number of privatisations) and ensured compliance with PwC international standards.
