Ensure a safe working environment, including the development, implementation and continued maintenance of a Safety Conscience Work Environment. Responsible for employee attendance and production.• Provide technical oversight of GSTR activities. Provide instruction and support to customers on GSTR capabilities and operation. Evaluates, categorizes, and approves all proposed experiments for technical soundness, compatibility with GSTR capabilities, and safety. Direct efforts of the reactor staff in developing equipment and procedures for enhancing GSTR capabilities. Advise scientists and engineers on the integration of the nuclear system into research programs. Direct research and development efforts of the reactor staff in developing new equipment and procedures for enhancing the capabilities of the facility.• Maintain a continuing liaison with the NRC, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, emergency response organizations, and other regulatory agencies as necessary for safe and effective facility operation. As a recognized expert in nuclear research reactor operation and utilization the incumbent maintains contact with other research reactor personnel. Represents the agency in interagency or national and international meetings or conferences as an authority on nuclear research reactor facilities and programs.• Develop and implement NRC-required training programs. Train reactor operators in preparation for NRC exams. Train scientific and engineering personnel in the fundamentals of reactor operation. Assist in the radiation protection training program.
