SAM ZELL-Served as the top legal advisor (and consigliere) to legendary investor, assisting with investment and other business activities and with personal matters including art collection, philanthropy, political contributions, residential real estate, personal legal disputes and trust administration.EQUITY GROUP INVESTMENTS (primary Zell investment platform also providing support for the Zell family office)-Chief Legal Officer and Managing Director. —In addition to responsibility for all legal matters involving EGI and serving as a member of EGI’s senior management, I served on the board and as a senior executive of the family’s private trust company (noted below), and served on operating boards of a middle eastern energy project, a Chilean wine producer/distributor and a technology company providing specialized information to major financial institutions, law firms and others, as well as the boards of over 100 internal and administrative EGI entities. -Served as EGI’s primary internal representative in the successful resolution of billions of dollars in claims asserted against its affiliates in connection with the Chicago Tribune’s bankruptcy.-Played key role in recovering approximately $500 million for EGI and international partners from a foreign government and its affiliates in connection with an investment that had been completely written off.-No material litigation arose during or since my tenure relating to investment or other activities while I was Chief Legal Officer of EGI (the disputes noted above related to investments undertaken before I arrived).CHAI TRUST COMPANY (corporate trust company administering Zell family wealth). --President and acting chairman (10/14-10/18); and—Senior Managing Director (equivalent to trustee) and Chief Legal Officer (1/09-2/20).
