After more than nine years as a Commission Manager at WSP, it’s time for a change. Commission management is a full-on, intense and hugely satisfying experience – I’ve loved (almost) every minute and been fortunate to work with some outstanding clients. Having led our sole-supplier local government highways contracts in Hertfordshire and North Yorkshire I’m now going to use my knowledge and skills to benefit a wider range of clients, primarily in the north.In my 30+ year career, mostly in the local government highways sector, I’ve had many roles with many councils. I’ve been lucky enough to see some top-notch best practice. I’ve worked in a variety of client/consultant models and experienced what works well. It’s this knowledge and experience, along with links with our excellent colleagues across WSP, that I bring to my new role.As a Technical Director I’ll be working with our teams and our clients. I’ll be seeking to understand what keeps our clients awake at night, and what we at WSP can do to help them sleep better. This is not about delivering the day-to-day very well (which we do of course), it’s about diving deeper to bring the knowledge and expertise that helps our clients face a rapidly changing industry – digital, technology, future mobility, climate, sustainability, asset management, resilience (I could go on). Yes, some of this is about winning work. But it’s about winning work that aligns with our passion to help our communities grow and prosper, and our passion to help our clients face the future with confidence.
