After 7 years working in cold atom research for gravity sensing, myself and colleagues launched our own start-up, Delta g, to develop commercial quantum gravity gradient sensors. This disruptive tech has the power to revolutionise civil surveying, navigation and many other fields as well.I have been studying and working in optics and quantum research for nearly 10 years; from an undergraduate at the University of Birmingham, UK, to becoming a research fellow at the Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Timing. Having been born and raised in Bath, Birmingham has become my adoptive home (Shout-out to the Independent Republic of Stirchley).My work and expertise has gravitated around ultra-cold atoms and their supporting technology. I have also undertaken training in health and safety practices, taking on roles such as laser safety officer, first aider and general health and safety liaison for a laboratory of ~30 people. I work in harnessing cold atoms for gravity research through atom interferometry, taking the technology from laboratory instruments to field deployable devices.These skills have enabled me and the team at the UoB Quantum Hub in Sensors and Timing, to develop the worlds first field demonstrated quantum gravity gradiometer, utilising cold atom technology: Stray, B., Lamb, A., Kaushik, A. et al.
