l For as long as I can remember, I have had an entrepreneurial mindset. When I was eight years old, I began to take weekly trips to the bank with my grandfather to deposit the change I found between the sofa cushions. I continued to collect coins, enjoying watching my savings grow. As I looked for more ways to make money, my grandfather suggested antiquing, and my “serial entrepreneur” phase began. At first, my objective was to shop for memorabilia that would become rare and could be sold for substantial profit when I was older. I convinced him to take me to The Junk Shop – a store with a sign on the door reading, “Open when we feel like it.” Inside, I stumbled across a promotional Coke can selling for $4.99 and, on a hunch, I bought it. The second I got home, I did some research and found the can to be extremely rare and selling for upwards of $300. As a child, this huge profit margin made me ecstatic, figuring I would never have to work again in my life. I continued to antique, buying and re-selling through eBay. Eventually, I realized that I was not just lucky, but that I was able to spot opportunities that others looked past. From that point forward, I was hooked. In later elementary school, I would purchase things like necklaces, stress balls, and fidget toys at wholesale prices on eBay, create an interest amongst my friends, and sell them at a profit. I became known as “the kid who sells stuff” and I was proud of that title. In middle school, I ran a lot of garage sales and by high school l was trying my hand at the stock market and became a day-trading guru who made a consistent profit. But importantly, working at Maple Street Biscuit Company, introduced me to a Christian business model that measured success not just by profits, but also by its service to the community and that valuable lesson has stayed with me. At that time, my personal path started to become clearer to me and I began to seek not just opportunities to make money, but opportunities to build my resume as well. Growing up in a religious school and going to church twice a week, I was inspired to become more involved in the spiritual community, so I became an ordained minister. Even though I haven't married anyone yet, I like knowing that I can. On a more whimsical impulse, I bought a small piece of land in Scotland which earned me the legal title Lord Jonathan Ramsay Wingard of Hougun Manor. While I enjoy how my friends’ parents jokingly refer to me as Lord Ramsay, I’m actually more hopeful that this title will get me upgrades on future business flights.
