I have been a classroom teacher since 1997 and am professionally licensed in both English Language Arts and Elementary Education. I spent the first eight years of my career teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade. Between 2005 and 2013, I taught sixth grade reading and language arts, seventh grade language arts, and eighth grade language arts (regular and advanced). Since 2013, I have been teaching English Language Arts classes at Boulder High School. To date, I have taught students at every grade level from third through tenth.

As part of this job I have coached secondary LA teachers by modeling lessons, providing feedback on best practices, co-planning, and providing resources; worked with administrators to create professional development strategies and whole-school common understandings around writing; delivered information to every secondary language arts department regarding the PARCC assessment rollout and instructional implications; facilitated and lead cross-school unit planning sessions that integrated UBD, CED, and PARCC-frameworks into cohesive units of instruction.

Contracted with the Gurian Institute as a certified trainer and provided professional development to help schools meet the academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs of boys and girls. Provided teachers with an understanding of how the brain works and the brain-based differences between boys and girls with the purposes of expanding thinking about how to best meet students’ needs and to provide instructional strategies that address and leverage the neurological and cultural needs of boys and girls.
