As an Asbestos Consultant, my role included arranging and managing site surveys for a broad array of clients. Once on site, it was my job to identify & sample asbestos containing materials to then provide the client with a report advising them on how to manage asbestos within their premises in accordance with regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. My role also required me to offer technical advice regarding asbestos management and remediation works to clients whilst on site, via email and over the telephone. My job involved travelling all over the country dealing with clients whom operate in commercial, domestic and industrial buildings. I have good working knowledge of the company’s ERP systems. The order database tracks business resources and allows the sharing of data across different departments of the company. This includes purchase orders, payroll, specific job notes, client information etc. Property plus is an online database system and is used by the consultants who populate the system with risk assessments enabling our clients to manage health & safety issues within their premises. Whilst working for SM&MS I trained to receive my P402 proficiency certificate in building surveys and bulk sampling for asbestos from the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene.

As part of my BSc Building Surveying course I undertook a years work placement. This included working on a number of different properties: duties included property viewings, undertaking condition surveys, organizing and meeting building/maintenance contractors on site, creating drawings for leases using AutoCAD and dealing with tenant issues. The experience gained from working at Towngate allowed me to complete my dissertation exploring the adverse effects the recession and empty property rates legislation have had on the property industry.
