Hi! I'm a back-end focused software engineer employed for a year and a half at icortica. Icortica offers cutting edge management solutions to businesses in the dental laboratory industry in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia. We are a SaaS company running a multi-tenant Ruby on Rails web application. Along with one other dev, we together developed their entire test suite that employs Capybara and Chrome-SSL to test their software’s functionality, both in the browser and the back-end. This comprehensive and thorough testing environment gives all devs and execs an easy tool to ensure confidence when updating code in the app.My most recent solo project was to build a demo account generator which utilizes service calls and rake tasks to emulate years worth of business data in all stages of production. This gave management and the sales team an indispensable tool that allows them to demo the entire platform to potential customers while ensuring that no sensitive data would be breached. My career path could be summed up in a single line from one of Johnny Cash’s biggest hits: “I’ve been everywhere, man.”I was a musician and DJ for 10 years and then a food industry worker and restaurant owner for nine years. But after several months of the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear that I needed to find a different path to take. That's when I decided it was time to sharpen my technical aptitude and pursue a career in software engineering. Needless to say, I didn’t exactly follow the normal path to a career in software engineering. It might seem unorthodox for a guy with 19 years of professional experience under his belt to pivot to such a drastically different career, but I’ve always believed it’s never too late to learn something new.My goal today is to combine the skills I’ve built up while coding professionally with several years of experience operating my own business and managing people to become a game-changer in the software engineering industry.
