As part of the digital transformation effort at the airline I worked within the Customer Products and Digital Retailing group on a number of projects as an solutions architect and technical lead.These included:* Member of the digital squad focusing on Continuous Delivery* AWS architecture for layer 7 routing as part of the airline's adoption of AWS* Real-time personalization of offers on the airline's website and in the airline's app* Experimenting with graph databases for recommendations and key influence identification* Prototyping of conversation based interfaces both text and voice

The mobile futures group was a small team within the Innovations and Ventures department, tasked with investigating and prototyping different technologies and ideas. I provided architecture and development skills to the group.As part of this group I prototyped and architected the coffee ordering service that is built into the Air New Zealand app. I also built the prototypes for what became the Airband product used to track unaccompanied minors.I also built a number of interactive displays for the Airline's 75th anniversary exhibition which was visited by over 1 million people in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch. The most popular of these displays was the "Paint Your Plane" interactive that allowed visitors to design their own aircraft livery, see the design projected onto a 3D model in real-time and then email themselves their design as a papercraft model.

Set up by Fonterra in 2008, GlobalDairyTrade (GDT) is an online auction platform for Fonterra and other manufacturers' globally-traded dairy products, and has become a leading price reference indicator for the industry.I was the architect and tech lead for the team that rebuilt their IT platform. The build included an internal web based event management platform, self service portals for bidders and sellers, a secure B2B gateway, an identity management system, a web content management system for their new website and the deployment of a CRM.The solution is all cloud based and ClearPoint was won an Innovation Award in the Fonterra 2014 Vendor Awards for this work.

The Air NZ labs team was set up to work on small and experimental projects with Innovations & Ventures department. The team worked on a number of projects, including:* Wenza - A tool to help customers find the best time to fly - http://promos.airnz.co.nz/wenza/* mPass (2nd generation) - Rebuild of the Air New Zealand mobile app, aligning the iOS and Android versions and adding flight delay push notifications* Customer segmentation - datamining prototype using Hadoop and Apache Pig* Air NZ Fairy real-time avatar - A real-time 3d avatar of the Air NZ Fairy driven by a behind the scenes actress. Made use of a Kinect, Wii remote and smart phone to track and replicate the actress's movements. Was used at the Air NZ wine awards and the Wellington sevens.

Auckland

Anaplan is a cloud based analytics, forecasting and planning platform. I was the architect and tech lead for the team that built the service delivery platform (SDP). The SDP provided all the non-core functionality of the product, namely:* website and content management* online help* identity management* customer sign up* customer self-service tools* internal admin and reporting toolsThis was an international effort with the core product team in the UK, head office in the US and the SDP in New Zealand.

Founding member of the ISIS team which morphed into the Innovations & Ventures department.Architected (and coded parts of) such things as:* ISIS booking and quoting engine* Grabaseat* airnz.mobi* mPass* Self Service Gateand numerous other projects.

10 years working as a consultant largely in the architecture and software development space. Worked with Carter-holt-harvey, Vodafone, Tower, Vero, Air New Zealand and various other companies.

I worked on a large number of projects for Vodafone, including:* Manage Your Account - I upskilled and team lead a mixed team of Vodafone & Optimation staff to build Vodafone NZ's first web based self-service portal.* Infobus - Vodafone's first use of message oriented middleware to broadcast business events between systems* Knox/LUD/UMS - Architecture, development and enhancement of various authentication and user management systems.* Vodafone Live - Architect on Vodafone NZ's roll out of a mobile content and app delivery platform

The first of many engagements with the airline. I was initially brought in to help document and formalize the airlines web platform and technologies.This was followed by the delivery of an internal flight information systems (AFIDS) and the extension of this to the Internet for public consumption (IFIDS).I was also the architect and tech lead for the build of JetNet which is a web portal for crew to access their schedule, news and training information. This included the build of an authentication and authorization system.

My first official role as a solutions architect. I was brought on board to rearchitect a PowerBuilder based on-line grocery ordering system (used by Woolworths, now Countdown) as a web based solution.Apart from the customer front-end the solution included:* a web based back-office system* message oriented middleware (MQ Series based) for integration with fulfillment systemsI also cross-trained 10 PowerBuilder devs as Java/Web devs. Unfortunately the company did not survive the dotcom burst.

The majority of my work for CLEAR (now Vodafone) was with their Networks software development team.My focus was on building telco switch management software (large C++ app) and network records systems (in Delphi/VB 6.0). I also worked on the delivery of call records via the Internet which replaced the floppy disk mailouts the company used at the time.At CLEAR I also got access to the first release of Java (v0.95b) and built a number of prototypes integrating with CORBA based services.
