My fascination with communication began at home. I grew up watching my father, who, without a college degree, served five university presidents and built relationships with leaders like Barbara Jordan through his ability to connect with anyone. My mother, a financial aid counselor, had an office that was always buzzing with students. She was fun, energetic, playful, and warm—a master at working the system to help students get what they needed to achieve their dreams.That curiosity has guided my career, from teaching communication to protecting the brands of entertainment giants like LiveNation, Netflix, and Warner Media. My journey into communication also led me to study the mind itself. I moved from communication to cognitive psychology, researching how teams work and make decisions, and then to the fields of economic development and entrepreneurship, where I explored how people create opportunities—often from nothing. The common thread in all of this? How we communicate.I’ve studied thousands of speeches, read countless books, and worked with a wide array of individuals—entrepreneurs, professional speakers, coaches, consultants, hippies, Nonviolent Communication experts, monks, yogis, teachers, and scientists.
