All computations on were run on the Gaussian 09 system.Studied the effects of Trimethylamine N-Oxide’s protein protecting properties in Urea-rich environments. This was done by optimizing geometries and corresponding vibrational frequencies of networks of TMAO, urea, and water. DFT functional employed was M06-2X high nonlocality hybrid functional. Two correlation-consistent basis sets with diffuse functions were used; aug-cc-pVDZ and aug-cc-pVTZ.Gave 6 poster presentations, 3 oral presentations, and co-authored the Journal of Physical Chemistry cover article, September 27, 2018, “Noncovalent Interactions between Trimethylamine N-Oxide (TMAO), Urea, and Water.” Was awarded 2nd place in Natural Sciences for my presentation at the MC-TC Undergraduate Research Symposium in the spring of 2017.
