I have worked with exploited children since 1989, notably managing Anti-Slavery International’s child labour programme from 1992 to 2006, as Save the Children’s Exploited Children Advisor (2007 and 2010) and through my own co-founded organisation, Children Unite. Over the years I have undertaken research with children and collaborated closely with civil society organisations on child protection issues across Asia, Africa and Latin America, specialising in the situation of child domestic workers. As an independent consultant since 2008 I have undertaken research, training and provided expertise on project and programme design, monitoring and evaluation and policy. I have worked with international agencies, grant-makers and local groups, including most recently in Tanzania, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, India, Ghana, Nepal and the Philippines. My doctoral research at the University of Dundee explored intra-generational relations between child domestic workers and the children of employing families in Tanzania. In addition to programme management work at Family for Every Child and consultancy I also work alongside the University of London’s School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on child domestic work and research ethics with children and youth.
