With over 25 years of experience in international law and impact investment, I am a Principal at Cahn & Cahn LLP and a Managing Director at JSX Partners Ltd. My mission is to harness and unleash more private capital to alleviate poverty, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.In my capacity as an international lawyer, I have had the opportunity to contribute to the development of legal systems in various regions, adapting to the unique challenges presented by transitioning economies. A highlight of my career was the groundbreaking work I undertook in Kazakhstan during its pivotal shift from a command to a market economy in the 1990s. This experience allowed me to engage deeply with the process of reforming and establishing legal frameworks that supported a country's economic transformation and integration into the global market.Throughout these endeavors, my goal has been to lay a foundation for legal systems that not only facilitate economic growth but also uphold the principles of justice and equity. This work is a testament to the potential of thoughtful legal reform to act as a catalyst for positive change in societies transitioning towards politically open and market-oriented economies.I am currently focused on two projects:An ambitious project aimed at developing a semi-autonomous legal and governance on Sherbro Island, Sierra Leone. This initiative, in collaboration with Idris Elba, actor, philanthropist and businessman, is positioned as a new model for African governance and development. A Justice Innovation Center, to support the next generation of legal activists to respond to injustice and inequality by leveraging new legal strategy, technology, including AI, blockchain, and big data to increase access to justice, redress systemic inequality, and to empower marginalized communities of color. The Center honors contributions made to public interest law by Edgar and Jean Camper Cahn.
