The Technical Support Team in Blackmagic Designs EMEA is divided across tres product segments. I manage the team for Live production products. This is a large and varied product range that contains many different technologies. Within this support team we pride ourselves on the Industry leading technical knowledge of our team. I spend a large proportion of my time leading training for both the Live Production Support Team and other teams in the business. As well as dealing with support tickets that have been escalated to me, I manage the personal development and HR needs of the team and work on developing processes to increase productivity. As a Support Manager I have direct contact with product managers and developers and work with them to report Bugs, confirm product functionality and develop solutions. When attending Industry trade shows such as IBC and ISE I demonstrate our products to attendees and answer both pre-sales and support questions. I have written and presented a series of support and “ How to” Videos which are hosed on the Blackmagic Designs Youtube Channel.

In my time at captive north, I Project manage live events, both locally and globally, and work as an engineer for many large projects such as the Royksopp festival tour, the International Festival for Business and the Amway Global AGM Dubai.I am also Responsible for all equipment management and technical training of staff.Liaises with both existing and new clients to develop projects and grow the business.

At AVM Solutions My responsibilities are split between servicing legacy installations and installing/ commissioning new installations.

At Future Media my time is split evenly between sales and installation. Because of the wide range of customers the Future Media deals with my knowledge base has to be broad and incorporate Pro Audio, Lighting and Video. alongside the technical knowledge i have been able to really improve my knowledge of hardware and installation techniques. At Future Media Systems I have a variety of responsibilities including: writing quotes, project managing, installation, direct sales and servicing existing installations. As a Sales and Installation Engineer, my duties include: attending site visits, writing proposals, purchasing and installing. When project managing I am responsible for writing risk assessments, writing sales and purchase orders and managing the other installation engineers.

JG Productions is a relatively small studio in north London where I am employed as a studio engineer on a freelance basis. The need for efficiency and speed on these projects requires me to be a great communicator and to have a very detailed knowledge of the equipment in the studio and also of any other gear that artists and external producers may bring. The majority of my time in the studio to date however, has been installing and maintaining the equipment in the studio.

As a service engineer I was expected to interact with customers, make sales and provide technical support over the phone. Alongside customer interaction the majority of my time was spent making repairs on units that have been returned or sent for repairs. I have specialist knowledge of Rode microphones, Arturia, Presonus and HHB original products and was one of two people performing warranty repairs for Rode and Presonus in the UK. Alongside these products in which I am specialised I have training in Moog, Genalec, Dynaudio, Universal Audio, API, Event, Digico, Jet City amplifiers and Eventide giving me a very wide ranging knowledge in pro-audio technologies and servicing techniques. As part of my role at HHB I had to make quality checks on new products released by the companies listed above. On a number of occasions I had to come up with modifications to both hardware and software to fix issues not noticed by the Q.A. at manufacturing. I also had to make comments on badly worded or poorly translated instruction booklets. Working for HHB has really honed my problem solving abilities in both electronics and engineering and taught me to be meticulous in my work.

I work as a live sound engineer at a local Manchester church. I have experience with an Allen&Heath iLive mixing desk, Mackie TT24 desk, a wide range of analog desks and professional microphones. I also have experience in monitor mixing for both stage wedges and in-ear systems. The environment keeps me on my feet at all times. Having regular practice with systems has greatly increased my working knowledge and intuition of these systems.

Love live events puts on small to medium size live music events including a weekly one at a Preston venue which they now employ me for regularly. As a live sound engineer, my ability to think on my feet is pushed, to enable myself to make the most of what time and equipment is available - often supplying my own gear and working as the only sound engineer. Working in tough conditions however does hone and develop skills and also produces a great sense of achievement when the best quality is produced

In this I was tasked with recording and the mixing of the recordings of a live opera show, to go with a DVD. As I was working with a university society the budget was tight and had to supply some of my own equipment. However, professional results were desired and achieved. In this job I have shown how I can work well under pressure and obtain professional results without an extensive budget.
