His practice also includes providing tax advice to high net worth individuals in relation to immigration and tax issues, fiscal implications of aircraft and yacht registration and financing structures. Jonathan also advises high net worth individuals wishing to set up a family office structure, or elements of such structure in Malta for wealth management and wealth maximization purposes. Jonathan also provides legal advice to financial services operators, wishing to passport their rights, re-domicile or set up their operations in Malta, particularly focused on retail and professional investor funds and investment services. To this end he assists clients through the entire licensing process and with the drafting of pertinent documentation in relation thereto. Jonathan also forms part of the Publications Sub Committee of the Malta Institute of Taxation. In July 2013 Jonathan also delivered several lectures in relation to topical issues in the sphere of International taxation, for a course organised by the Malta Institute of Taxation, lecturing subject matters such as corporate anti-avoidance provisions, the taxation of aircraft operations and the taxation of collective investment vehicles, amongst others.

Jonathan served on the steering committee for the International Referral tax group throughout 2014 and was positioned to assist in the development of International Referral.

Dr. Jonathan De Giovanni joined EMD Advocates in July 2008 and was admitted to the Bar in 2010. He held the position of Manager and Tax Consultant, managing the International Tax Department and Aviation Law Department within EMD Advisory Services Limited and EMD Advocates respectively. He provided high level tax planning advice to the firm’s international client base, in relation to complex cross border operations in which Maltese corporate and non corporate vehicles are employed in a tax efficient manner. At EMD Jonathan also managed the private clients department which is a specialist arm within the tax department that caters for ultra high net worth and high net worth individuals. Jonathan advises clients who are seeking to obtain Maltese residency, both from an immigration and tax perspective. Within this remit he specialises in providing high net worth individuals with bespoke solutions and pertinent structuring for both their personal and corporate needs. Within the Aviation Law Department of the firm, his field of practice included advising clients in relation to aircraft registration and structures involving aircraft ownership, financing and leasing.

Civil and general corporate / commercial law: Jonathan's main responsibilities included vetting and drafting of contracts both in the commercial and civil fields as well as vetting of other judicial acts. Other responsibilities included the carrying out of legal research.
